Zomba Diocese Intensifies |
The special Task Force on Covid-19 in Zomba Diocese says it remains committed to contain the spread of Coronavirus among Christians and people in the Diocese and surrounding areas.
The Chairperson of the Task Force, Fr. Innocent Chiwanda was speaking when he led a Diocesan delegation to Chipini Health Centre, Namitembo Parish and Namitembo Farm where they donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and sanitizing items aimed at preventing people from contracting the virus.
Fr. Chiwanda said that only health people can contribute significantly to the development and growth of the Church, and that is why the Diocese sought financial assistance from its partners to enable it purchase the items.
“It is the aim of the Diocese, led by our bishop Rt. Rev. George Tambala, to make sure that we play a role in the fight against Coronavirus through reaching out to people with protective materials and share with them knowledge about various preventive measures such as personal hygiene and many more”, added Fr. Chiwanda.
Fr. Chiwanda, who is also Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator, appealed to well wishers to help the diocese with financial, technical and material support so that it can reach out to as many people as possible in an effort to halt the spread of the deadly virus.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the director of Chipini Health Centre, Mr. Tafara Mchenga commended the Diocese for the timely donation, saying that it will minimize some of the challenges they face when discharging their duties, especially in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
“As frontline health workers, we need personal protective equipment but on our own, we cannot afford. We sincerely thank the Diocese for considering us,” continued Mr. Mchenga.
He assured the Diocese that the donated items will be put into proper use to make sure that they protect the health workers and their clients from contracting Coronavirus which is highly contagious.
The Board of Zomba Diocese Agri-business Committee, which implements a number of projects at Zomba Diocese’s Namitembo Farm in Chingale area, requested the donation from development partners and purchased assorted items such as hand sanitizers, soap, disinfectants, gloves, masks, hand washing buckets and many more items.
Besides Chipini Health Centre, the Diocesan Covid-19 Task Force also donated items to Christians at Namitembo Parish and workers at Namitembo Farm respectively in a bid to enforce personal hygiene. Also, selected road-side households in Chingale area, Zomba, received some of the items.
Bishop Tambala recently formed a Covid-19 Taskforce at diocese level as a faith-based response in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus.
In his remarks, the Bishop’s Secretary Fr. Isaac Tsegula advised the people to ensure that they adhere to the preventive measures all the time in order to contain the spread of the virus.
