Speaking to Kiongozi newspaper, the head teacher at Blessed Annuarite Secondary school teacher Carlos Mgumba said Sister Kapuli was going to pay money for food to the food store that supplies food stuff to their school.
“Sister had gone to the food store to pay for beans which had earlier been delivered to our school and when she got back into the car, she was attacked,” the head teacher said.
He said that in the morning of that fateful day the late Sister was accompanied by the deputy head of the school Sister Brigita Mbanga along with their driver, Mr. Mark Patrick and together they went to CRDB bank Milimani City branch to withdraw the money. From the bank they decided to pass by the food store pay for the beans even though that was not in their original plan. They made the decision to go to the food store after realizing that the amount required was small.
They paid one million shillings at the store and what they were left with which was taken by the thugs was very little contrary to media reports that the sisters lost a huge sum of money.
The head teacher also said that the late sister began working at the school in 2012 and was a very dedicated employee who worked with diligence and commitments.
The mother superior of the congregation of Sisters of Our Lady Queen of Apostle-Mbeya, Sister Maria Mirambo said that the incident happened when she was attending the Tanzanian Bishops Plenary Assembly in Dar-es-Salaam from where she got a telephone call informing her of the unfortunate sad situation.
She said that when she got to the scene, she was informed of what happened that’s when she learnt that the thugs shot from the back window of the care from where Sr. Mbanga was sitting. However she was lucky to escape because she swiftly got out of the car and ran away. The late Sister Kapuli was trying to free herself from the car's seat belt when the thugs shot at her.
"I cannot say how many times they shot at her, but it appears she has a bullet wound on the neck, back and chest also on one hand,” Sr. Mirambo said.
She said that the late sister will be buried on June 28 at congregation’s cemetery which is located in Mbozi District in Mbeya Region Hasamba from where the congregation originated.
During the funeral Mass for the late sister, Bishop Gervas Nyaisonga of the Catholic diocesan Mpanga called upon parents and society in general provide good upbringing for their children in order to reduce criminal acts.
"Criminal acts are a result of poor upbringing of children, it is therefore upon parents and society to come together and ensure children are brought up in proper and upright ways to avoid such instances as this." said Bishop Nyaisonga. He added that people should not give up because such things happen in today’s society; what is needed is for people to be vigilant and to cooperate with the police to give information so that justice can be done.
