In a letter signed by ZCCB President Rt. Rev. George Lungu, the Conference said that Bishop Kasonde’s loss is shared with by all the members of ZCCB and the entire Church in Zambia.
“The two Sisters will surely be missed for their evangelizing presence, missionary work and valuable apostolates to our people. Be rest assured of our fraternal closeness and joint prayers for all those who were injured in the said accident. We pray for their quick recovery,” Bishop Lungu said.
A communique from the Ordinary of Solwezi Diocese Rt. Rev. Kasonde who is also AMECEA chairman reads, “Today at around 06:40 hrs, I lost two Religious Sisters on their feast day, belonging to the Congregation of Servants of Saint Joseph, who were in company of four volunteers from Germany, being driven by one of my priests from Solwezi to Kasumbalesa and Lusaka respectively,”.
One of the two nuns was Colombian and other other a Congolese. The German volunteers have all survived but they have been hospitalized in Solwezi General Hospital, while the diocesan is in a stable condition.
On behalf of the AMECEA family, we join the ZCCB and the Diocese of Solwezi as they mourn the loss of the pastoral workers. We convey our sympathy and condolences to the Congregation of Saint Joseph and the bereaved families, as well as the lay faithful in the diocese.
May the souls of the two nuns rest in eternal peace. And may the Lord grant Bishop Kasonde and the entire Catholic family in Solwezi Diocese the faith and strength they need during this difficult and challenging time.
