Seminarians at the Episcopal of Malawi’s theological seminary St. Peter’s have been drilled and enlightened on the role of mass media in evangelization as a way of disseminating the Gospel Message to the ends of the earth in a technologically advanced era.

The seminarians received a three-day training on how they can use the mass media to evangelize.

It had been the Seminarians’ and deacons’ desire to be better informed on how they would spread the Gospel through use of digital technological devices available in the world today. Theirs’ were questions like how would the nobility of the Gospel be surrendered to technology? How can there be any humble reconciliation and partnership between the gospel and technological devices?

Mrs. Stella Kaferapanjira, one on the facilitators ably indicated that, “Now is the age in which Christ the Word-made-flesh has become incarnate in the digital age and that through mass media, Christ can reach out and sanctify people who otherwise would not be physically reached”.

Through the workshop, seminarians have been urged to continue putting the much-needed effort to achieve the desired goal of teaching Catholics to use the social media prudently and for spreading the Gospel to the end of the world.

Speaking at the workshop, Fr. Godino Phokoso emphasized that “…despite their usefulness, social media cannot replace face-to-face pastoral work”. He hinted that we cannot entirely depend on arm-chair pastoral work but also need to go out and serve the people.

Speaking on his behalf, Erick Nyondo, a third year student, expressed great satisfaction with the workshop. “The workshop has been very helpful and of practical value. It has left us with great tools which will not only be of our own good but also for the good of the entire Church,” he said.
This workshop was organized by ECM’s Communications Commission and was held at St. Peters Major seminary which is situated in the Diocese of Zomba.
