ETHIOPIA: Members of the Ethiopian Reconciliation Commission Hold Discussion with Prime Minister Abiy

Members of the Ethiopian Reconciliation commission which was established a year ago met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to discuss and review progress of activities undertaken, including the development of a strategic plan; forging partnerships with various entities and groups; stakeholder consultations in different areas and taking targeted interventions following conflict in some pockets of the country.

In their report the commission representatives presented to the Prime Minister that they carried out local and international experiences sharing programs. The representatives also said that the commission is working on the three-years strategic plan. And to strengthen the process of the preparation, the commission already established sub-committees. 

In addition to its internal activities the commission also performed awareness raising workshops for media and held various discussions with all Regional States presidents and senior regional governing bodies.  

After reviewing the key milestones presented by the commission, Prime Minister Abiy provided direction in how to further strengthen their activities by focusing on the capacity and potential of the commission to execute key activities through creating goodwill.

His Eminence Berhaneyesus. D. Cardinal Souraphiel is the Chair Person of the Ethiopian Reconciliation Commission while the Vice President is a Catholic Lady Yetnebersh Nigussie, a lawyer and disability rights activist who was named a joint winner of the Right Livelihood Award - Alternative Nobel Prize In September 2017.
