The Catholic Church in Malawi through the office of Pontifical Missionary Society (PMS) has applauded the involvement of Children in spreading the Gospel of Jesus.

This, follows a success recorded on Epiphany celebrations in all the eight Catholic dioceses in the country that were held on 5th January this year.

Making its evaluation of the Epiphany celebrations, the PMS team in the Archdiocese of Blantyre led by its director Fr Mathias Thawani, recorded a success in all the eight deaneries under the Archdiocese.

“The reports that we have received from teachers who were organising these celebrations show that our children are responding to the Church’s call that they should be evangelisers while they are young and we are quite happy with these reports” said Father Thawani.

He has disclosed that the Archdiocese of Blantyre looks forward to engage the children even more so as to ensure that they are active with their ministry all the times.

Concurring with Father Thawani, the National PMS Director Fr Vincent Mwakhwawa said his office has received positive reports of the celebrations in all dioceses of the Catholic Church in Malawi.

“We are happy with these reports. We are sure to have a vibrate Church in the future because these Children are understanding their role in our Church,” said Fr Mwakhwawa.

Fr Mwakhwawa then emphasized the need to have vibrant structures that can also help the children from rural areas with their ministry.

“Though we have noted success from our dioceses, we also realize that children from some rural parishes and out-churches need to be reached with the necessary support so that they too are able to understand their role as members of the Church, baptised and sent,” added Fr Mwakhwawa.

The Catholic Church worldwide commemorates the Epiphany as a feast of the manifestation of Jesus Christ as the light and the Saviour of all the people. On this day in Malawi, children take reading roles in the liturgy of the Catholic Church such as the proclamation of the Word of God and animation of the singing.
