The Vice Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and the Bishop of Ngong Rt. Rev. John Oballa recognizes marriage as a beautiful gift from God.
Addressing Catholic Men Association (CMA) during a celebration to mark Fathers’ Day on 16th, June, 2019, Bishop Oballa affirmed that couples can live in love and respect each other until they are separated by death despite the numerous challenges facing the family in the world today.
He urged men in matrimony to bear witness of the joy of marriage and to prove that by God's grace, marriage can be sustained.
“For you baptized men, husbands and fathers, your mission is to bear witness that marriage is a beautiful vocation from God, and that Christian family values can be lived with fidelity, love and faith, even in the world that seems to follow the ways that are opposed to Church teachings. Show them that it is possible to live in unity until death,” Bishop Oballa said.
Bishop Oballa said the family must protect and safeguard family values.
“The battle today is against the evil one who wishes to destroy family values. Be resolved to pass on the message of salvation for ages to come, to your children and grandchildren.”
Fathers’ Day is marked to honouring fathers, celebrate fatherhood and recognize their influence in society and the significant role they play in their families. It was also a prayer day for all men, so that their love and faith may grow steadily, following the example of St. Joseph in the Family of Nazareth, the defender of the family and faith.
In recent years the Diocese of Ngong has experienced an increase in the number of men joining Catholic Men Association, which translates to an improved apostolate to men. With over 1,000 men having being commissioned in Ngong Deanery, it is a key indicator of a mushrooming apostolate.
