The capacity building project training for Tanzania Episcopal conference (TEC) came to close on 8th May 2014 at St Mary’s Spiritual Centre in Msimbazi, Dar-es-salaam by the Eucharist celebration led by Rt. Rev Eusebius Nzigilwa, Auxiliary Bishop of Dar-es-salaam.

In his message to the participants, Bishop Nzigilwa said that the fruits of the training can only be seen in the implementation of what they have learned from the training. “You are the closest collaborators of Bishops, thus you need to help them in realizing the mission and vision of your Dioceses.

Bishop Nzigilwa challenged the participants that they should understand that Leaders are made not born as many people think. “It is true that some people have natural charism in leadership, but charisms only become additional values when people undergo training,” he said adding that “To acquire leadership skills somebody needs a training if one wants to become a  good leader.”

On behalf of the Conference, he thanked the Bishops Conference of the United States (USCCB) for supporting the program for the benefit of the church in Tanzania and the AMECEA Region. He added that the church should embrace new ideas and technology and so establish capacities that are already in existence within the church institutions to enhance efficiency across the region.

Speaking with AMECEA Online News from Dar es Salaam the Capacity Building Coordinator Ms Christine Mbugi said that she was impressed with the training. “The participants took the training very serious and you could tell that they needed that training,” she said. Ms Mbugi commended the St Augustine University of Tanzania for preparing the modules of training and conducting the training. “They really did their job perfectly and I think the participants have benefited a lot from it,” she said.

A cross section of the participants interviewed said that they wished that they get another chance for such kind of trainings. They asked AMECEA to prepare training for their fellow staff of the Diocese.

Speaking on behalf of AMECEA Secretariat Fr Chrisantus Ndaga said AMECEA is grateful for the cooperation they receive from TEC secretariat and SAUT that led to a successful training. To the participants, Fr Ndaga thanked them for availing themselves to participate in the training which aimed at building capacities in leadership and management across the dioceses and Church Institutions in the country.

The training brought together 58 senior management staff from across the Arch/Dioceses in Tanzania. These were (Vicar Generals, General Secretaries, Directors of Schools, Bishops Secretaries, Vocational Directors, and Finance administrators). Two centres were established for the training: SAUT Dar Es Salaam which had 32 participants while SAUT Mwanza had 26.

The closing ceremony of the training was also attended by Rt. Rev Agapiti Ndorobo, Bishop of Mahenge Diocese and Fr. Raymond Saba the Secretary General, Tanzania Episcopal Conference.
