A Catholic nun and Deacon have died in a road accident at Nyansonso area in Mufumbwe District in Zambia’s Solwezi Diocese.
Sr. Albertina Mbobola belonging to Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi and Deacon Anthony Chanda of Franciscan Friars Conventual died on the spot after a light truck they were travelling in from Solwezi town to their mission stations overturned at Nyansonso area in Mufumbwe district.
Solwezi Diocese Vicar General Very Rev. Dr. Fr. Albert Sakala who announced the untimely death of Sr. Mbobola, 30 and Deacon Chanda 34 said the accident occurred around 18:30 hours on Tuesday 15 January 2019.

“On behalf of Rt. Rev. Charles J. S. Kasonde, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi, it is with deep sorrow and sadness that l have to announce the death of Sr. Albertina Mbobola FMSA and Deacon Anthony Chanda OFM. Conv. They were travelling from Solwezi to St. Kalemba Mission and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Convent in Kabompo respectively when the light Truck they were travelling in overturned at Nyansonso and the two died on the spot.”
Bishop Kasonde has since asked Christians to pray for the families of the two departed Religious.
“In this time of sorrow on untimely death of our beloved Sister and Deacon, I am asking each of you in the Diocese and beyond to pray for the Religious families and families at home of the two beloved religious personnel,” he said.
The two are expected to be buried at Ndola Diocese’s St. Theresa Mission in Ibenga, Luanshya District.
