Salva Kiir President of South Sudan
The President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed hope that Easter season would mark the end of violence and political confrontations in the country to create chance for peace.

Speaking to the Faithful at St Theresa Cathedral in Juba on Easter Sunday the President condemned Bor youth for attacking IDPs at UN compound terming it as an ‘irresponsible act by irresponsible people’.

He also condemned road block checkpoints taxing relief workers on their way to conflict affected areas. “Checkpoints taxing aid workers are illegal and must be removed immediately,” he said adding that “Officers found blocking roads to relief suppliers and taxing them would severely be punished.”

President Kiir refuted international media reports that the conflict in South Sudan has ethnic dimension, insisting that it is a power struggle.

Meanwhile, the government of South Sudan has dropped the case filed against the four top politicians accused of treason that triggered the civil war in the country.

The Justice Minister Paulino Wanawilla said that the case was being dropped in the interest of peace and reconciliation. He said that the four would probably be released by Friday 25thApril 2014.

Political analysts see the dropping of the case as a very significantstep towards ensuring Peace and reconciliation in the country since the trial was seen as a stumbling block to the peace talks in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa as their release had been a key demand of the rebels.

In addition to the treason charge, they four were accused of inciting the army and fuelling an insurgency in the country.
