UGANDA: Katigondo Seminary Prepares to Celebrate Centenary Jubilee

The chairperson of the organizing committee of the Katigondo National Seminary Centenary informs the general public that Katigondo Seminary is celebrating 100 years since its foundation.

The seminary was founded by the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) in 1911. Since then 4000 seminarians have studied in Katigondo and of these 1700 were ordained priests and 27 were ordained bishops.

Among the former students of Katigondo are Msgr. Victor Mukasa Womeraka and Fr. Bazilio Lumu (the first African priests in the south of the Sahara), Most Rev. Dr Joseph Nakabaale Kiwanuka (first African bishop in the south of the Sahara), His Eminence Laurent Cardinal Rugambwa (first African Cardinal), His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga (first Ugandan Cardinal), His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala (second Ugandan Cardinal) and Mr. Joseph Mubiru (first Governor of Bank of Uganda). Katigondo Seminary has also trained thousands of laity who are effectively serving the church and society in many capacities.

The climax of the centenary celebrations will take place on 25th May 2013. Old boys, well-wishers and friends of Katigondo are invited to support and to join in the celebrations of this historic event.
