AMECEA: ACWECA Staff Begin Training on ‘Changing Technology’

The delegates participating in the Capacity Building Workshop organized by the Association of
Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA) have commended the training facilitated by the staff of IBM research centre at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).
 
Speaking to AMECEA Online News the participants said that what they learnt was quite exciting, interesting and will take them a long way to support the work they do in their various missions.  
 
The two-week workshop which officially began on 31st March and will run till April 12th and it has over 30 representatives from Zambia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan and Kenya.
 
The first week of the training workshop whose theme is dubbed ‘Changing Technology ended on Thursday. The participants were trained on communication (Content and website development, blogging and micro blogging, applications such as whatsapp, viber, social
networking, and photo sharing) while week two which begins on Monday 7th will involve training on financial management (Stewardship, accountability and integrity, PR, Internal control and procedures).
 
In his welcoming speech, CUEA Vice Chancellor, Rev Dr Pius Rutechura said that it is a great privilege for ACWECA to be among the first people to be trained through IBM, to get a taste of what it means to be people who use technology. “You are here to be empowered so that you can speed up ways of doing things. I’d like to congratulate ACWECA for this brave step. I look forward to fruitful results at the end of the training,” he said.

need in embracing technology in networking with one another and perform tasks assigned to them in their national associations.
 
The General Secretary of ACWECA, Sr Catherine Okari said that the training workshop is a great opportunity to the nuns and will facilitate the growth of the organization and fulfillment of the ACWECA strategic plan.
 
She encouraged those attending the workshop to empower one another and reach out to national associations to work together to create greater bonds among themselves and grow together in solidarity.
 
“This is pride of religious life, a great moment for religious women. Sisters are indispensible, but they need skills and tools to be able to respond from the grassroots to university levels. Thank you donors, IBM, CUEA, ACWECA and the organizing team”, said the ACWECA chairperson, Sr Margaret Aringo.
