"It is always a big sight to have a large number of consecrated women coming together for their assembly every three years,” Sr. Okari said.

Between 1974 and 2011, the Plenary Assemblies have deliberated upon 15 themes that have guided the work of ACWECA countries.

Meanwhile, Zambia Association of Sisterhoods (ZAS) executive secretary Sr Anna Phiri said the main organizing committee, which comprises of eight sub-committees, had been meeting every month to review progress.

Sr. Phiri said the organizing committee faces many challenges and therefore appealed for support from all Christians, particularly Small Christian Communities, religious communities of men and women and corporate entities.

She said the success of this conference would depend on the physical preparations and involvement of every sister as well as on prayer.

"The preparations of this year's assembly are left to us as a hosting country and there is need to join hands together to make this occasion both successful and memorable," said Sr. Phiri.

ACWECA was founded in 1974 and comprises the National Associations of Women Religious of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. ACWECA plenary assemblies take place every three years, since 1974, with the venue rotating from one country to another within the region covering these countries.
