For the first time in the history of the Catholic Church in the Country, a Diocesan Prison Chaplains  Workshop  has been organized at Sisters’  Retreat  House at Kasisi, in Lusaka from 11 -12  May 2017.

Acting Catholic National Prison’s Chaplaincy Coordinator Fr. Romek Janowski, SVD said that the workshop aimed at empowering the chaplains with more coordinated programmes that will be used in the country.

Fr. Janowski explained that this is with the background that in some dioceses there is regular prisons chaplain working very well in the Prisons or Correctional Services while in others less is being done.

“This program is very educative and helpful. Among us are very experienced and knowledgeable chaplains who would be willing to share their knowledge with others,” he said.

Fr. Janowski who has been involved in the Prison Ministry for twenty years and has participated in three International Prion Ministry Congresses said that the workshop has also attracted Zambia’s Correctional Service Chief Commissioner Percy Chato and National Prison Chaplaincy Coordinator from South Africa.

The workshop will discuss Biblical Mandate and Skills for Prison Ministry, Prison Care and Support, Restorative Justice, Restorative Justice Intervention, Restorative Justice Processes and plan some network and cooperation.

It will also elect a Catholic National Prison Ministry Coordinator.
