A Call has been made to Diocesan Communication Directors and Catholic Journalists to ensure that as they continue to evangelize the world by using the new media technology without breaking the rules and regulations of the country, they should be in conformity with the values of the Catholic Church.
Bishop Michael Msonganzila of Musoma Diocese made the call during the short seminar to the Communications Directors and Catholic Media Directors held at Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Kurasini, Dar es Salaam this week.
He congratulated them for their commitment to their great responsibilities despite of the challenges they face. "Your poor working environment is among the many challenges you are facing,” he said.
Bishop Msonganzila said that as they discuss the New Media Law they should also ensure that Catholic Values are not undermined. “The seminar can be taken as an opportunity for the growth of faith/communication based relationship,” he said adding that “Never ignore our values of respecting human dignity.”
The Bishop asked the journalists to be professionals by being the voice of the voiceless while enhancing gender equality among peoples in the society.
The Director of the SAUT – Dar es Salaam Campus Rev. Dr. Charles Kitima said, "the new media Law of 2016 signed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli must give us an ambient of fulfilling Church’s mission by focusing on good values."
"As Catholic journalists we should be keen with this new media law, lest not enter into predicaments. We should help our people even those in authority understand better the law; Give them techniques and educate them on this new law,” he insisted.
