The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) main organizing committee of the 18th AMECEA Plenary Assembly has organized a Fundraising Dinner to raise funds for the Plenary Assembly.
According to the Chairman for the Publicity Sub-Committee, Saulos Chilima the fund raising event will be held on 14 February, 2014 at President’s Hotel in Lilongwe. The event will accompanied by a number of activities including a live band, Dinner and raffle draws in order to spice up the event.
The subcommittee takes the advantage of the date “14 February” where people all over the world celebrate ‘Valentine’s Day’, to invite people to also contribute for the forthcoming AMECEA Plenary Assembly. “We expect at least 300 people to participate to the event. However, even those that cannot manage to buy a ticket are, as well as encouraged to contribute what they have as we welcome any contribution from well-wishers,” he said adding that “All people of good will from all over the country are welcomed.”
He said the tickets for the event will cost Malawi Kwacha 30,000.- (Double) and 15, 000.- (Single) that is equivalent of USD 70 and 35 respectively.
Already every Catholic Faithful in the country had been asked to contribute a minimum of K50 towards the plenary.
AMECEA Plenary Assemblies take place after every three years. This will be the third time Malawi is hosting the Plenary Assembly. The first time was in the year 1979 in Zomba under the theme: “The Implementation of the AMECEA Bishops Pastoral Priority of Building Small Christian Communities: An Evaluation”, and the second time was in 1995 under the theme: “The Role of the Church in development in the light of the Africa Synod.” The theme of the forthcoming AMECEA Plenary that will be from 19 -26 July 2014 is: “New Evangelization through true Conversion and witnessing to Christian Faith”.
