AMECEA: CUEA Seek to Empower African Sisters through Higher Education

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA)  is  seeking to empower African Sisters  following the Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CUEA and African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC)  on 20th January 2014, at CUEA Lang’ata Campus, Nairobi Kenya.
 
The MoU was signed by Msg. Dr. Pius Rutechura, Vice Chancellor, CUEA and Sr. Dr. Jane Wakahiu, the Executive Director of ASEC and Sisters Leadership Development Initiative (SLDI) Project Manager. Also in attendance was Sr. Agnes Wamuyu, Executive Secretary of the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK); ASEC coordinators from Kenya, Cameroon, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Others who attended the ceremony were the Administration of the CUEA, staff and students.
 
The signing of the Framework becomes the starting point of the long way of partnership between CUEA and ASEC which seeks to empower African Sisters to develop creative and innovative skills sets through higher education, so that they can efficiently serve the society.
 
ASEC’s mission is to facilitate educational opportunities for women religious in Africa which will enable them to enhance and expand access to educational, healthcare, social and spiritual services for the people they serve. ASEC is a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence since 2006.
 
Under this framework, five sisters joined CUEA this trimester for their studies, four in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and one in the Faculty of Commerce.
