AMECEA Secretariat has conducted a ‘Prayer Day for Peace in South Sudan’ that took place at the Secretariat Chapel on Wednesday 15/01/2014.
The event which was attended by all AMECEA Staff and neighbors started by the recitation of the Holy Rosary – (Light Mysteries) and followed by the Eucharistic Celebration.
During the Holy Mass, Fr Don Bosco Ochieng who was the Main Celebrant of the Eucharistic Celebration said that from the information they were receiving from South Sudan a lot of atrocities are committed in the country. “As usual the victims have been always the innocent ones; Women and Children,” he said adding that “Since there is little progress in the Peace talks in Addis Ababa, the only initiative remaining is through Prayers. Let us take refuge to God.”
Fr Bosco also invited the audience to pray for the souls of the Victims of Ferry tragedy that happened on 12/01/2014 in River Nile, in which more than 200 people, mainly women and Children died while fleeing fighting in the town of Malakal, in South Sudan.

Speaking after the Prayer event the AMECEA Secretary General Fr Ferdinand Lugonzo said AMECEA is in Solidarity with the suffering Church of South Sudan. He asked the members who attended the Prayer Day to continue praying for the country. “This is the beginning as we should do this every day for that human initiatives seem not to be working very well so we should seek God’s intervention,” he said.
